As I head into my fifth collaboration with Allen Kaeja (I am the Child of…), I reflect on the fact that he is one of my most frequent collaborators. We’re a curious match. My increasing interest in minute scales, stillness and silence are, in many ways, at odds with Allen’s intense and acrobatic physicality. But beyond this initial contrast, our shared love of spontaneous and collective creative processes, and of direct and generous engagement with an audience, have allowed us to discover and explore a surprising, deeply enjoyable and rewarding complementarity.
